What to Expect

Taking that first step toward counseling can be unsettling. Most likely you are already dealing with a lot of uncertainty, discomfort, and stress. This is just an idea of what to expect when you send that message or make that call to me.

When you first reach out, please leave a message that includes a good time to call back or let me know if you would prefer an email response. If you would like to speak by phone, consider when you might be able to talk privately for 15 minutes or so. I will always ask first if it’s a good time for you to talk whenever I reach out.

During our initial consultation call, I will listen to your present concerns and let you get to know a little bit about me. If you feel comfortable moving forward, we will schedule an in-person or online appointment. I will gather some basic information from you and send you some forms to fill out before our first appointment. I do my best to work with my clients to make counseling accessible so please let me know if a sliding scale fee is something you need. I want you to feel fully informed and comfortable before you move forward.

If we have an online appointment, you will be sent a reminder with the link to join our HIPAA approved Telehealth appointment.

If we have an in-person appointment, you will find ample free parking at the office site. My office is located right inside the main door. Feel free to come a little early to give yourself some time and space to prepare yourself for our time together. There is coffee, tea, and some light snacks so you can feel nourished and grounded. When it’s time for your appointment, I will invite you in to my office to begin our time together.

My hope is that you find the space and our time together comforting and safe. When experiencing loss and grief, the uncertainty can be overwhelming. I hope you find this to be a soft place to land and explore what your next steps are.
